Colchester-Milton Rotary Honors Veterans and Community Heroes Amid Snowstorms

Despite a fierce snowstorm blanketing the area, Colchester-Milton Rotary hosted its sixth annual Veterans Day ceremony in Milton.  Due to the inclement weather, the truck showroom at Charlebois was transformed into a powerful gathering space for honoring local veterans and heroes. The event showcased the resilience and dedication that define Milton’s community spirit and was a yearly culmination of the Rotary Club’s “Flags for Heroes” project, according to Chuck Ginsburg, Rotary chairperson for this project and master of ceremonies for the event.

Milton’s fire, rescue, and police departments joined the St. Ann’s Knights of Columbus Honor Guard to pay tribute to those who serve and protect. Father John Feltz offered a heartfelt invocation, setting a solemn and grateful tone for the proceedings.

The Green Mountain Choral Group inspired attendees with stirring renditions of the “National Anthem” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” their voices rising above the wintry weather in celebration of service and sacrifice.

City representatives and community members braved the snow to express their support for the event, emphasizing the importance of unity and gratitude on this meaningful day.

Kevin Endres welcomed attendees and introduced keynote speaker, Adjutant General Davis Shevchik of the Vermont National Guard. General Shevchik delivered a moving tribute, expressing deep appreciation for veterans and community heroes. His words highlighted the everyday acts of courage and selflessness that enrich Milton and inspire all who call it home.

This year’s ceremony was not only a testament to those who serve but also to the enduring strength of a community determined to honor its heroes, no matter the weather.
